How do you know that someone is a 90s kid? Because they never shut up about it.
Well, we’ve got good reason! We were born into an age of prosperity and progressive values! Plus supermodels! Goosebumps! Jelly shoes! AOL! Beauty and the Beast! And did I mention supermodels?
Whenever I think of the 90s, I get sadhappy. Sad that my childhood is over, happy that I got to live through the Clinton years.
Lately though, I am just happy. Why? Because I see 90s nostalgia walking down the runaway. The 90s have exploded all over the beauty blogosphere, and nothing has made me happier.
Remember the Pepsi Ad? Everyone in my neighborhood tried to imitate Cindy’s look for about 5 years after that: big hair, big hoops, jeans & tank top.
You get extra bonus points if you know what this is: it’s Club Monaco’s Sheer Lipstick in Glaze, as worn by Monica Lewinksy in her interview with Barbara Walters in 1999…the interview caused sales of the product to spike.
Sabrina the Teenage Witch! I just stuck that in here because I loved the show!
So I’ve been on a real 90s kick. I used to be afraid to use dark, bold colors, especially on my lips, because I’m on the fair side. But a dark berry is great for me, especially if it’s matte (to creat the ultimate 90s effect)
I use BareMinerals lip liner in Natural to line my lips. I then smudge the line with my pinky.
Then I add a berry lipstick. Right now I’m using
BareMinerals lipstick in Berry Glace,
Covergirl Flipstick in Vixen (which I got super-cheap with a coupon!)
or, if you really want to be hardcore…
Revlon Matte Lipstick in Wine Not
I blot, reapply, blot again. I keep the eyes pretty simple, usually with liner and mascara only, but neutral shadows work for night. It’s enought of a flashback to be sweet and nostalgic, rather than just looking dated.
So, what’s your 90s beauty throwback?
